I have been treating patients for over 25 years. Leaving college after A levels, I trained in Plymouth to become a Staff Nurse working on a busy acute trauma ward, dealing with broken bones and joints, usually after road traffic accidents, falls or sporting injuries.
Moving to Torbay Hospital I was a Charge Nurse (Male Sister) for several years until as a family we moved ‘home’ to Cornwall. I trained as a masseur and sports injuries therapist as a way of getting out of the NHS, as I was becoming fed up with the politics of nursing.
I was still looking for the ‘way out’ when, whilst treating a visitor to Perranporth, he talked about his Osteopath and how great he was. So I found out about the training, 5 years alternate weekends in London and much to my family’s surprise applied. Many miles later and after much hard work I obtained my Bachelor of Science (with Honours) in Osteopathy from the College of Osteopaths. I now work from my own clinic room in Perranporth; at the Natural Therapy Centre, Redruth; and the St Austell Osteopathic Practice. The goal has been achieved as I have left the NHS, I miss my Colleagues, but not the politics.
